Here’s the fifth page of Closing Time. A simple one, but one I hope you all will enjoy.
Anzu got quite a few Asks submitted after her debut, which I was happy to see. I would’ve liked to do more of them this month, but the timing didn’t work out well for it. I did want to do at least one, though, and picked this one out of a few that I liked because I thought the “gamer girl” dynamic could be played in a cute way. I liked this idea of Rebecca taking the Studio approach to a question like this, while Anzu’s just focusing on her gaming. If I can, I want to do a lot more with Anzu in the coming months, so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of her down the road.
Denji and Raditz is one of those random crossover pairings that just kind of occurred to me one day. Now, to be clear, I don’t really see their relationship as romantic or anything, in this pic they’re just having some fun bro time. I do have a clear image of them, though, as this kind of stinky, troublesome little duo. It’s very easy for me to picture them hanging out and making something of a nuisance of themselves around the Studio, and I just kind of like the idea of them as pals. Of course, to illustrate that and be on brand means drawing them fucking here, but hopefully most of you won’t mind that.
The Near Hentai Monthly Lady for April 2024 is Marin Kitagawa from My Dress-Up Darling. Marin was one of those fleeting internet waifus who was really popular in fanart during the original airing of her anime. I have a tumultuous relationship with these types of flavor-of-the-moment popular girls, but Marin’s one I did like as I enjoyed her show. Design wise she’s attractive, but in a sort of generic way, but her personality and mannerisms do a lot to elevator her in my eyes. I flirted with drawing her at the time, although I don’t really like getting in on trends much, and after her five minutes were up she did get a shot in a First Shoot poll, but came up short. She’s finally making it into the Studio now through the NHML, however, and her crush Wakana gets to join her.
With this post, NHML nominations for the month of May are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, My Dress-Up Darling. If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on May 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. So I was kind of in the mood to do a Surge Ask when picking this one. She had several questions, but I wasn’t satisfied with the answers I was coming up with for the ones I could do, and so I figured I’d move on. Then I saw this question for Kintaro, and kinda thought I could work with that instead. Kintaro is very gay for women, and I don’t think he’d pass up a furry girl if presented with one. Surge is a little bit outside the type of woman I usually pair him with, but branching out is good and I like the idea of Kintaro being intrigued by how different some furries can be from what he knows.
We ended up with a rather oral-focused page this time around. A couple of the scripts I got had panels focusing on Bulma stripping Vegeta, but I had to skip the armor-removing stage of that just ’cause it looked a bit too silly however I tried it. Even though this page doesn’t move things forward too much, I kinda like the relaxed pace here. Now that everyone’s naked, I kinda expect the next few pages to escalate relatively quickly.
The March 2024 One-Shot focuses on Scarlet from Space Dandy hooking up with a few different memorable characters from the series. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched the show, but I don’t think she ever actually meets Prince or Johnny, but they’re both featured characters in two of the more iconic episodes. Pine-Pine is a coworker of hers, and Dandy is the show’s main ship, though.
Scarlet’s a character I’ve tried to do something with for years, but when I got stuck on the BooBies Calendar it became incredibly difficult for me to get anything Space Dandy-related out for a few years. It’s nice to finally get her into the Studio, though, and the other three she’s bringing with her are nice additions as well. I decided to go with a different look of hers for each panel, and thought it’d be kinda funny if none of them were her “default” look. I’m sure that design will show up eventually in an Ask or something, though.
This is the penultimate page of Space Emperor Slut. This is also the last “action” page, as the final page will be wrapping up the story. This moment here, including the last panel and Trunks’s line, have been planned from day one back in 2015, and it feels nice to finally get here
Yuko Ozawa is a minor character in Jujutsu Kaisen who is an old classmate of Yuji’s. She has a crush on Yuji, and I wanted to do something with her. I also like her dynamic with Nobara in the episode she appears in, though, and had this idea I thought would be fun using all three of them and playing into their dynamic a bit.
I don’t think I have much to add to this one. This Subscriber has talked some about pairing Loid with every character Yor and Anya have worked with so far, although it’s not something I’m interested in actively pursuing. However, there are individual characters that are closer to them than others, and I think Yuji is someone who probably has a good relationship with Anya. I don’t think I’ve ever had her refer to him as her big brother in previous work, but Yuji has a way of becoming people’s brother and it’s just kinda a natural fit for him.
