Here’s the BooBies Calendar page for September, featuring another girl briefly seen in the BooBies restaurant in Space Dandy. Like the others, I went to my Discord for help naming her. This one we decided to call Blossom, which I think suits her.
This page of the BooBies Calendar marks a bit of a milestone, in that it’s the first new drawing for this project since 2014. On Discord we decided to name this girl Eliza, and she’s our sole glasses girl. I decided to go with a bit of a more sophisticated pose for her, and I hope y’all will enjoy.
Here we’re finally into new pages for the BooBies Calendar project. It had been bothering me that all but three of the waitresses featured in this series had no canon names, nor fan names or anything as far as I could tell. So, I collaborated with some Subscribers in my Discord to start naming them. Obviously they aren’t official names or anything, but they’re the canon names in my book and how I’ll refer to them if any of them show up again in my work. The previous waitresses all of have their names in the tags of their posts, while this here is Celeste Zara.
So in 2014, while Space Dandy was airing, I had a little ongoing series called the BooBies Calendar. It was a simple premise, a lewd in-universe pin-up calendar for the Hooters-esque chain BooBies from the show. I thought the series was going pretty well, some of the old entries still kinda hold up today even, but I ran into a snag with it. My June entry was based on a background waitress (like most of them were) featured in one brief shot early in the series. I made the pic, and then shortly afterwards the penultimate episode of season two aired. The episode focused heavily on Rose Reginald, a BooBies waitress who had a very similar design to the background waitress from the beginning of the series. I don’t know if they re-used her design, or if they were meant to be the same character or not, but it made my June page feel… incomplete. I’d used the earlier design, where I only had one small shot of her to even reference from, and now there was a real named character with a complete design that I could’ve used instead. I kinda lost my interest in the series, and ended up dropping it (along with all my other in-progress Space Dandy content).
Recently I’ve been being re-exposed to Space Dandy a lot, and I’ve decided to pick this project back up and see it to completion. Seven or eight pin-ups isn’t nearly as daunting a task as it once was for me, and I think I can probably finish this during 2023. I wanted to correct my biggest regret with the series first, though, which meant remaking the June page with Rose’s accurate design. I re-used a lot of my original art, but re-drew her head and flipped her for an angle I think looks better with her hair style. I hope y’all will enjoy this pic, as well as the later pages whenever I manage to get to them.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a BooBies Calendar update, so here one is. This one’s been sitting 90% finished in my work folder for a month, so I figured it was high time I moved in and wrapped it up.
This unnamed character is by far the most statuesque waitress that will be featured in this series (unless Space Dandy introduces a new character that surpasses her). She’s both the tallest and the most stacked, to the point where she sort of towers over the others in her one appearance in the show. Her hair just adds to the effect.
Speaking of her hair, she kind of reminds me of Aura Blackquill. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
EDIT: This character actually got some screentime later in season two, as well as the name Rose. She was also redesigned a bit, making me really wish I had waited so I could use the version people would better recognize. Oh, well.
Here’s the fifth installment of the BooBies Calendar series. Again, this character doesn’t have a name or any lines in Space Dandy, but she does appear in the first episode. Her and another waitress get tied to an alien who gets so flustered he explodes, or something.
It was recently pointed out to me that I could have made these pics an actual, functioning calendar for 2015. I hadn’t even considered the notion of the calendar being anything other than a gimmick, though it’s too late now. 😀 Anyway, I hope you guys are enjoying these pin-ups!
Here is the BooBies waitress for the month of April. She’s one of many unique waitresses we see when the “breastaurant” is being explained, and I thought her look stood out enough to be highlighted here.
Okay, so here’s the third installment of the Boobies Calendar project I’ve been running. In this installment we finally break into the characters who are not only not named within Space Dandy, but also don’t even have any lines. From here on out its all characters you won’t recognize unless you spend a little too much time freeze-framing the Boobies waitresses in the show.
So here’s the second installment of the Space Dandy-based BooBies Calendar series. This month is February, and features the only other Boobies waitress (to my knowledge) to get dialogue outside of group lines. She appears in the first half of the second episode, serving the main characters and taking selfies with them alongside Honey.
True to form for this series, I couldn’t find any instance of her having a name. Since she’s by far the second most important character I’ll feature, you can be sure that none of the other images for this calendar will have character names in the tags. It’s all background characters from here on out.
Like with 99% of the content I put out these days, I used a photo reference for this image. I mention it here only to say that I absolutely loved the way the models legs and feet were lit in the picture, and went through painstaking measures to try and recreate that look in this image. I am a bit concerned that it made the rest of the image (especially her face) look a little bit flat, but I think it paid off.
UPDATE: It looks like she was given the name Candy in the Space Dandy Picture Dramas (thank you, Anonymous), which means we now have two named BooBies waitresses! Now all we need is for them to name the other ten waitresses I’ll be doing in this line, and my tagging OCD can finally be satisfied…
So this is a side project of mine that I’m pretty excited for. I’m a big fan of Space Dandy, the new anime from Shinichirō Watanabe. In the show, the main character Dandy is a frequent visitor to BooBies, an obvious Hooters parody. The idea for this series is basically a twelve-part pin-up series featuring the waitresses of BooBies. The only problem is, Honey here is the only prominent member of the BooBies staff. That’s right, I’m doing a twelve-part series featuring only one name character. I’m such a dork.
So, yeah, the other eleven entries in this series will all be actual characters from the show, but they’ll also all be nameless background characters. I think February’s girl has a couple of lines in one episode, but that’s as relevant as any of them will get. Hell, a couple of them aren’t even background characters, just designs shown in a panning group shot while the narrator explains what BooBies is in the first episode. This is obscurity for you, but the girls are hot so I hope you all can enjoy the pics anyway.
