Ajisai Sena NHML

“There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” is one of those anime title names that’s very easy to make fun of, and almost caused me to skip this one. The premise, too, didn’t sound that promising, but I liked the art style and what I’d seen of the animation. When I did watch it, I ended up surprised at how likable the characters were, with the main four girls it focused on all becoming characters I was fond of.

This is a yuri anime about a girl who used to be a quiet nobody, but reinvented herself for high school to try and turn her life around and become popular. She got in with the popular girls at school, including the leader who’s an international model, and through circumstances ended up with them all crushing on her in one way or another. It hits a lot of the same contrivances as your average harem anime, but it has a strong cast and humor and won me over. Ajisai, the NHML winner, is the quiet member of the group, and she’s just the sweetest thing. The last arc of the anime’s first season focuses on her, and my heart broke for her at a couple points. She’s arguably the best ship with the MC, Renako, but she has a good relationship with the main LI (Mai) as well. They have that kinda love triangle/throuple energy that made me want to put all three of them together for this pic.

The text here is “muri muri,” which is what’s translated in the title as “there’s no freaking way.” Renako says it a lot, especially in the opening credits, but basically any time yuri stuff is happening to her.

With this post, NHML nominations for the month of June are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…. If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on June 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. I look forward to seeing who you all nominate this time around!

Sorry, but since it appears you already nominated someone under the name “Star Fox” I won’t be able to accept any of your nominations this month.

  2. SLB

Known abbreviated as “Watanare,” this work is one of the representative yuri romantic comedies, in which the introverted Renako, who is trying to change herself, gets unexpectedly involved in a debate with the popular girl about “friendship vs love.”

Oh, one more thing. I realized that Ajisai had won, and Renako is also popular, so she should have been the winner too.
