The poll that lead to this fusion was focused on “bad girls”, ten villainesses from the long list of villainous women I’ve drawn over the years. Interestingly enough, the winning two were both ones I’ve only drawn a couple times, but I think the resulting character Shezula has some real appeal. I waffled a bit on her skin color, but ultimately decided to use the tone of Shego’s skin with Azula’s color, making her a classic pale raven-haired seductress type. I hope you all like her!
I was still in a bit of an Avatar mood after finishing the February NHML pic. I liked the idea of doing an Ask with Azula, though I wasn’t sure if hooking up with the original “Gaang” would be her first priority in the Studio. Zuko’s sort of part of that group, and I thought she’d want to reconnect with him. I’ve talked before about how some people’s personalities shift when coming into the Studio, and that’s how you can have villains and world conquerors living alongside heroes and the like. Canon Azula probably could not function in any society where she isn’t in charge of everyone, so Studio Azula’s a bit more stable and sociable. Hopefully this version of her can continue to have a more enjoyable relationship with her brother than what occurred in the show.
Ty Lee won this month’s NHML raffle, and I decided the best way to go with her would be to 1) Do something showing her flexibility off and 2) Get Mai and Azula involved. These three are probably the last of the main TLA characters not to be featured in the Studio at some point, and this was as good an excuse as any to bring all three of them in. I don’t know how much they’ll show up in the future since, despite loving Avatar porn whenever I come across it, it’s almost never on my mind as something to draw. At the very least we have this threesome, though, and I do think it’d be fun to try something else with this trio eventually down the line.
With this post, NHML nominations for the month of March are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, which in this case includes all versions of Avatar (TLA and LOG). If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on March 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. I look forward to seeing who you all nominate this time around!
