Here we get a bit more into the one-on-one yaoi side of this comic, as Bulma and 18 mostly play a support role to Goku and Vegeta’s moment.
So here’s the One-Shot comic for March, which is built around Neon Genesis Evangelion. Each panel pairs one of the main pilots (and Kaworu) with a different character, all of which I assume have a connection in the eyes of the Subscriber who submitted this script. Most of them I see the connection, but I don’t really know enough about Invisigal from Dispatch to guess about what she has in common with Asuka. Maybe they’re just both tsunderes? At any rate, this comic is a debut for Shinji, Kaworu, Sephiroth and Invisigal, so I hope fans of any of them will be excited to see them in the Studio.
Like with the female performers, we had some ties with our top male performers, but at least here there was more symmetry. Yuji and Goku both tied for our top returning males, while Al and Sero tied for our male rookies. It honestly didn’t feel to me like I drew Sero as much as I did Al, but that’s probably in part because he served a mostly-anon role in one of his appearances. Regardless, I decided to pair Al up with Goku, since last year’s version of this pic had Goku with Ed. That left Sero with Yuji, naturally.
I think Desna earned himself a little bit of interest with his appearance alongside Canute in a recent Ask, so here he gets to appear by himself a bit. I didn’t really feel like him giving a numerical answer, like “three” or something, would be that interesting though, so instead we get to see what constitutes Desna’s playful side in his response.
So it’s been a long time since I did an HOS pic, and there’s a few different reasons for that. One of the big ones is that I feel people didn’t necessarily vibe with this series, which is likely due to it having a darker story/connotations than even the other dubcon type stuff I’ve done before. I had this one already drawn up and planned, but I probably won’t do a fourth entry in this series unless I have an idea I really like for it.
Anyway, this one introduces Loren and Lucien’s mothers. Their families have close ties, which is how Loren and Lucien got to be friends, but it seems their mothers might have some tensions. The Hidden Orchard Society makes sure they’re close regardless.
Also, for anyone interested, here is the Q&A video I did for Subscribers last month:
I worry sometimes that Goku’s generous ratings might get old, but I decided to do this one for two reasons. One is just that I haven’t spotlighted Majuub much. He was mostly hidden in the OS I first drew him in, and other than that I’ve only ever drawn Uub. Speaking of Uub, the second reason is that I thought this could work is that Goku could also talk about him a bit.
Dizzy, or Queen Dizzy, is a Guilt Gear character and someone one of my Vanguard-tier Subscribers wanted to see. Specifically, they wanted to see her Strive design, which is what I shot for. Like most Guilty Gear characters, she has a bit of a complicated design and isn’t easy to draw, so I don’t expect to see her showing up in, like, Asks and stuff.
