In the weeks approaching Mother’s Day, Raven found herself without any clue what to get her mother back in Azarath. Their relationship had been forever changed since she and Beast Boy had visited her a while back, but that only made her desire to get her mother something special even stronger. She had tried talking to Beast Boy about it, but he was predictably unhelpful. Then, with only a few days left before the maternal holiday, Raven and B.B. sat down for a movie night. They popped some popcorn and sat down to watch Requiem for a Dream, a movie Raven had been meaning to watch for a while, but Beast Boy had never heard of. They both had different reactions to the bulk of the film, but they clicked on one scene at the end. As Jennifer Connely found herself surrounded by screaming business men, throwing dollars onto her sticky, naked body, Raven looked over to Beast Boy. He looked back, a wry smile on his face as he’d had the same idea. Arella’s Mother’s Day gift was decided.
Happy Mother’s Day! I hope all of you who are able get the chance to spend some time with your mother today.
It’s been a while, but I went on a bit of a kick on A Kind of Magic in early 2016. I knew when I started this series I wanted to bring Willow and Cindy back for MomSwap, since I never did get around to drawing them together back then (was more focused on pairing Tom with them at the time). Now’s the time, though! This is another one of those shows where I’m less confident in how my approach works with the art style, but I think I did better with them now than I had in the past. I might try and bring these characters (especially Willow) back into my rotation more often if anyone would like to see more of them.
So I watched Food Wars a while ago, and found myself liking it a lot more than I’d expected to. Similarly, I thought Nikumi here would be just eye candy without much character, but she ended up being one of my favorite characters in the whole series (but also eye candy, Food Wars isn’t shy about fanservice).I thought I’d do a lot of Food Wars stuff while I was watching it, but that ended up not happening for one reason or another. I get a second chance now that Nikumi (Soma’s nickname for Ikumi Mito) won the NHML raffle this month. I actually did a handful of sketches of these two together, since I had some old interest in them kicked up again. No promises, but there’s a chance one or two of those might end up fleshed out a bit for future pics (or I might forget about Food Wars altogether again, who knows). Anyway, I picked this one to use for the NHML since it showed off the most of Nimumi’s body, I think, and I hope you all like it.
With this post, NHML nominations for the month of June are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, Food Wars. If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on June 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. I look forward to seeing who you all nominate this time around!

Alright, this one’s finally done. I hope you all enjoyed the ride, but I think I’m going to take a little break from coloring ben_10mil’s work. There’s just too much pressure to get pages out with these comics, and I’d rather focus on other projects for the time being. Maybe some day I’ll come around to color a different one, we’ll see, but right now I associate ben_10mil’s comics more with stress than anything. As always, I’ve included the original version of this page down below.
So, I feel like this Ask was probably fishing to see Marth paired up with a guy from another series (Asks along these lines usually are). I was having trouble settling on something that I liked, though, but I also felt like drawing Marth, so I made a compromise. Marth’s a character I’m really fond of, despite not having played any of his games, and I’d like to take a few more stabs at him again in the future.

Like I mentioned when I did Tia, I wanted to get both Mace and Jackie’s moms out in bio form. Mia’s Mace’s mom, who we’ve seen briefly once before. She’s lead a bit of an interesting life, I think, though these days she spends most of her time either working or partying. It’s possible her parenting style has contributed to Mace being the way he is, though that’s not really a problem. After all, the Mace and Jackie series wouldn’t be nearly as interesting if he spent all his time staying home studying or something.
So for this Ask, the choice was obvious to me. Arella’s interest in Raven was my favorite element of One Night in Azarath, and probably something I’ll focus on again for future Arella projects. I just love mother/daughter stuff, so that’s how Arella’s own tastes have skewed. Nothing much more to say about this one, other than I’d like to try and draw Arella again sometime soon if I can.
