Character Asks

Yuji Itadori Character Ask 6

So for a few different reasons I’m always hesitant to say two characters are a “couple” in the Studio if they aren’t in the source material. Even ones like Nanami and Tiana or whatever I usually just present them more as fuck buddies. The one exception is the handful of characters who I feel like are presented as a couple in the source material, but just aren’t confirmed (usually because it was taboo to do canon gay couples until fairly recently). Yuji and Inosuke, being from different series, obviously don’t fit into that, and I also just don’t know if I see their dynamic as romantic. They definitely feel to me more like friends who happen to fuck, like it’s easier to picture them goofing around than being heartfelt I guess. Anyway, I figured I’d try and answer this in their own words, with a little eye candy to boot.

Amy Wong Character Ask 1

Mars is a planet we love to populate in fiction, but of course every story has its own idea of what Martians would be like. Amy is a Martian in that she lives on Mars, but she’s still a human. Futurama has its own Native Martians that she would be familiar with, however, although they’re mostly just coded like Native Americans.
While I was able to think of a handful of notable Martian characters, within the Studio the main one who came to mind was Queen Tyr’ahnee, the Queen of Mars from Duck Dodgers. The only other character I could think of was, like, Sailor Mars maybe, but it’s possible I’m forgetting some other characters with Martian roots. Even if I thought of someone else, though, I love Tyr’ahnee so I probably would’ve gone with her as Amy’s partner regardless.

Miss Sakaki Character Ask 1

For this Ask, I decided to try something I’ve considered doing many times before. Sometimes I draw a picture for an Ask and it’s just more vertical than horizontal. There’s a few solutions I’ve used to deal with this in the past, either zooming in and cropping out a lot, or tilting it to a diagonal angle or, if neither of those feel like they work, just leaving a bunch of empty space on the page. I almost did the crop solution for this one, but changed my mind last minute so we now have our first horizontal Ask. In the future, I’ll alternate between these two aspect ratios depending on what I think best fits the Ask.
As for the specifics here, Miss Sakaki is a famous lover of cats and cat-like things. Her answer was obvious from the onset, but I went back and forth on a few potential partners since there’s a handful of catgirls I could use. In the end, Monique and Catra seemed like a fun duo to pair her with, and I’m happy with the result.
