This pic is sorta a long time coming, I think. Chel from The Road to El Dorado was an early cartoon crush, I always really liked her design and she’s a very fun character in the movie. Of course, by the time I started drawing for the internet it had been years since I’d seen the movie, so she wasn’t as prominent in my thoughts as she had been when I was a kid. Still, I’d be reminded of her every now and then, and always felt the itch to draw her, but for whatever reason I never got around to it until now. Here she is, though, one more childhood crush crossed off the list. I can’t say if I’ll do more with her or if this is it, but I guess it’ll depend largely on how well this pic is received.
Here’s a commission I recently did of Astrid and Toothless from DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon”. This image presented a unique challenge in Toothless, who differs greatly from what I’m used to drawing. Still, it was fun to learn a new body type, and I’m pretty satisfied with the end result of his scales, which was also something new I had to learn. Hopefully everyone will enjoy this picture as much as I did making it!
The WWOEC Woman of the Month for May of 2013 is Eep of The Croods. I was really excited when her name came up, as I had actually nominated Eep myself not long ago. My original idea for this pic was much more ambitious, but I’ve spent about half this month traveling so I had to hurry it along for the sake of the deadline. I would definitely be interested in drawing more Eep in the future, potentially with Ugga (her mom). Even if she didn’t have Emma Stone’s sexy voice, I just love her design and I feel like this pic doesn’t quite do it justice. Hopefully I’ll be able to take a second crack at her soon.
