This is a little sketch I did a while back when I had an itch to do something with Bulma. Like many such sketches I wasn’t really sure if I’d ever get around to inking and coloring it or not. I had a little bit of a window where I could squeeze something small in, and decided to dust this one off to fill the gap.
When my Subscribers decided on the new straight ongoing comic, they voted first on the characters and then the story. After getting Eren, Armin and Mikasa, there was some back-and-forth over which portion of Attack on Titan the comic would take place in. At the time, putting it earlier in the show won out, hence the comic up to this point. This month only one script was submitted, and it called for moving the comic into sometime between seasons three and four, during a period conveyed mostly in flashbacks. I’m not thrilled about abruptly cutting off the comic’s momentum in this way, and I’m a little worried the title no longer makes sense, but hopefully people will still be able to enjoy however much of this one we have left at this point.
The winning One-Shot script this month features a smattering of characters from The Legend of Korra and Attack on Titan. The script called for their late-season designs, which I hope I was able to do (especially for TLoK, aside from Korra herself I don’t really know how anyone’s designs change). It also features the debuts of Sasha and Kuvira, although in both cases I feel I’ll be using different looks for them if they show up again.
A new thing here, but I’m trying out a sort of “wrapped” year end celebration. The data for these awards is based on the SubscribeStar calendar year, not the public one.
First up, the category for the most One-Shot appearances in 2024 which was a four-way tie this year:
Next is the category for the most Character Ask appearances in 2023, which was also a tie:
Next is the Comeback Performer of 2023. The award goes to whomever had the longest gap between their last appearance, and their return this year:
Next is the Male Newcomer award, which goes to the male character with the most appearances who debuted this year:
And the Female Newcomer, who had the most appearances out of the women who debuted this year:
And now, finally, the Male Performer of 2023, who is the male with the most appearances overall in 2024:
And the Female Performer of 2023, the female with the most overall appearances in 2024:
I don’t know if I’ve addressed it before, but there’s been a bit of a pattern of me answering this type of Ask (pairing up “science” gals with other “science” gals) with this position. I thought it’d be fun to do the same with Hange, and Thomas Edison came to mind as someone who might be closer to Hange’s level than a lot of the sci-fi mad scientist characters in the Studio.
This is the last of the three Tomo-chan Is a Girl! MomSwaps I wanted to do, with Tomo’s best friend Gundou and her business mommy. Now that these are done, there’s actually another anime with three mother/daughter pairs I saw recently. I don’t know when it’ll be, but probably the next MomSwap I do will be the first of those.
So, there are a few ladies I theoretically could have paired Nanami up with here. However, given what a serious guy he is, I don’t really picture him just jumping into a relationship with someone in the Studio. Honestly I don’t even know if I can picture him having a fling or anything, either… When I imagine Nanami developing a relationship with someone, it’s over a long period of time, seeing them repeatedly, like with the bakery girl from his flashback in the series. So, no longer than he’s been here, nothing like that could’ve blossomed. I thought it’d be cute to hint at some possible future relationships for him, though, and I also figured fans of his wouldn’t mind getting a better look at his body while he goes over his daily routine.
