Aki x Megumi

Aki from Chainsaw Man and Megumi from Jujutsu Kaisen are two characters that are easy to compare for a couple of basic reasons. They’re both kinda moody, monotone guys who have to keep the energetic protagonists of their shows in check, both have canine spirit companions they use (the Fox Devil for Aki and divine dogs for Megumi), they both have kinda stupid-looking hairstyles, and both come from high profile MAPPA shows. I’m far from the first person to draw them together, but I figured a few of you out there might like seeing this pairing from me.

Beach Treat Chainsaw Man Comic

Beach Treat, Page 1

This month we begin our new yuri ongoing comic, replacing Pajama Party Pussy. It seems people wanted to see some of the Chainsaw Man ladies having some fun. At first I was worried about how this comic would mess up the narrative I had going with Denji about waiting for Makima, due to the SS ongoings posting earlier than everything else, but then the May NHML ended up doing that even worse. At any rate, Kobeni gets to debut here. Even though we only see them for a bit, I gave her and Power canon swimsuits we’ve seen before. I don’t think Makima has anything like that, though, but I figured a simple white bikini would work for her. Our ladies’ beach trip got steamy pretty quickly, and I hope y’all will look forward to the next page.

Just a friendly reminder that this Ask was done before Makima was introduced to the Studio!

So, when I read this question I kind of had an idea of how Aki would see Denji’s choice. Hopefully his position is articulated well here, but basically I think he’d see it as kinda childish but respect his willingness to stick to it. Aki, on the other hand, has no such hang-ups, even though he also crushes on Makima in the series. I figured him showing just how much more open to “Studio life” he is would spice up his answer some. For his partner, I figured Momo would be as good as anyone, and is kinda a fresh pairing, I think.

Denji Character Ask 2

I mentioned in Makima’s NHML post that there were several upcoming Character Asks that were made before she debuted in the Studio, and this is the first of them. Please be patient and play along, knowing this happened months before that pic. Here’s what I wrote at the time:

So, I’ve had this notion for how Denji would act in the Studio for a while now. While it’s true he’s a desperate horndog virgin in the source material, he’s also completely dedicated to Makima (for better or for worse), and I don’t think that would just go away in the Studio. I can’t really say for sure if Makima ever will make it to the Studio, I assume she will eventually but she’s not a priority for me. Until then, though, Denji’s got his heart set on letting her be his first time.

While I’ve resolved to cut back on adding too many new Fusions to the Studio, I do still want to do them occasionally. I had the idea a while ago to run a Fusion poll for Subscribers made up of only First Shoot rookies, so once we hit ten I decided we could celebrate that way. So, of the first ten FS rookies, Yor and Power ended up winning the poll. I can’t say this result is terribly surprising, and I decided to go with the funniest name option I had on my list. I hope you all like Powyor, and maybe we’ll see her again down the road.

In my mind, there’s really two ways to answer this question visually. Either I could draw Armin with Eren again to show how close they still are, or I can show Armin making his own connections outside their friendship to parallel Eren’s. I went with the latter, for variety’s sake, which I hope people won’t mind. I went with Aki as Armin’s partner here, ’cause I suspect there’s some overlap in the AOT and CSM fanbases.

So, Makima winning NHML puts me in an awkward position, but it’s one I was already in thanks to her involvement in one of the upcoming SubscribeStar Ongoing comics. This will be old news for Subscribers, but for people who only follow the public releases of my work, several Asks that haven’t gone public yet revolve around Makima not being in the Studio yet. So, for the record, canonically those Asks all happened before this NHML pic. As for the pic itself, I thought it’d be funny for Makima to work with Denji, but maybe not in the way he’d been envisioning.

With this post, NHML nominations for the month of June are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, Chainsaw Man. If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on June 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. Power Character Ask 1

So, I had this image in my head of Power adjusting to the Studio. I picture her looking around, watching videos, and kind of copying what she sees. In this case, I thought it’d be kinda cute if she just flat-out imitates the last thing she saw (Cat Noir’s recent Ask, Power was intrigued by his name and so sought out his Ask when it released), but despite just copying someone else is extremely proud and boastful of her performance. Hopefully that comes across well here.

First Shoot #9 – Power

Power was the third winner from this poll, tying with Rukia and Jeice. She’s become a real popular character since Chainsaw Man blew up, and I expect we’ll probably be seeing her around quite a bit. Her random partner, The Thing, was kind of a surprise, but I thought the idea of her not listening to him and insisting on calling him the Rock Devil would play well against his gruff personality.
