Capsule Corp. Bliss, Page Three

So here is page three of Capsule Corp. Bliss, where we finally get to some action. I think this is where I’m going to leave this comic for now, as I move on with my rotation. I think this comic has a good start now, but it was intended as a celebration for hitting a SubscribeStar milestone and I’m currently still dancing back and forth across the threshold of that milestone instead of firmly past it. I’m hopeful that when we come back to this comic on down the line we’ll be more securely into the era this comic was intended to mark the start of.

First Shoot #29 – Haku

Haku occupies a weird place for me, due to my complicated relationship with Naruto. I originally read the Naruto manga as part of my Shonen Jump subscription, which was a big deal to me at the time. I enjoyed early Naruto when I read it as a kid, before the anime, and for me it peaked with the Zabuza arc. In hindsight that feels really sad, since that’s basically the first real action arc of the story, but nothing that came after ever hit as hard as that for me. Within that, Haku stood out to me as he was one of the first times I realized I could find a male character attractive in media. Obviously him being so feminine made it not that shocking, but from there I started realizing I could look at other male characters that way, first in Hikaru no Go and Shaman King, and later peaking with an “aha” moment for Cell Saga Gohan that lead to me deciding I wasn’t straight (it’d be a few years before I identified as ace).

So, Haku’s kind of a weirdly important character to me, and is probably my favorite character in Naruto as a whole by a good stretch. I’d mentioned liking him here and there in the past, I think, but I never really drew him for a few different reasons. Sometimes I find it harder to draw characters I have these unique relationships with, as if l lewding them might ruin how I see them or something (it never actually has). I also just, like, don’t think about Naruto very often and don’t usually have a reason to draw it unless someone’s paying me to. At any rate I’ve thrown Haku into First Shoot polls a few times, and in this instance he happened to win. His random lottery partner being Denji is a big part of why I moved forward the end of his virginity arc, but it lead to what I think is a cute interaction between him and Haku here.

Leyte Jokin Character Ask 1

Leyte’s a character I’d almost forgotten about until I had to draw her for the Gurren Lagann One-Shot recently. I think she has a lot of appeal, and I was perfectly happy to draw her again for this Ask. I don’t know if this Subscriber had any specific characters in mind she might could appear with, but I hadn’t drawn Entrapta in a while and thought she’d be a cute random partner.

Dirty Thoughts

For anyone not familiar with Sakamoto Days, Shin (the blonde boy) is a mind-reader who works for/with retired assassin Mr. Sakamoto. Occasionally Sakamoto will get annoyed with Shin and imagine killing him graphically, which Shin of course sees and reacts to. It’s a recurring gag, but one I thought could be played with a bit if Sakamoto imagined something a little different.

Denji Character Ask 7

I imagine there’ll be a lot of room for Denji to work with people he appeared with during his virginity arc now that he’s more liberated. One I wanted to do was Juliet from Lollipop Chainsaw, since I’d never originally planned to have their pic together be like it was. Circumstances kinda dictated how that one turned out, and while I like that pic a lot I figured this Ask would be a good chance to give them another go.

Kirigaya Kazuto Character Ask 2

A pretty simple play on words here. I thought it might be a little fun if the weapons he was dual-wielding belonged to other characters who’re familiar with wielding multiple weapons (at least in their source media). Zoro famously uses three blades, and I’ve been told Tengen uses two large blades chained together like nunchuks, which I think is close enough.
