Here’s the fifth page of Closing Time. A simple one, but one I hope you all will enjoy.
Yuko Ozawa is a minor character in Jujutsu Kaisen who is an old classmate of Yuji’s. She has a crush on Yuji, and I wanted to do something with her. I also like her dynamic with Nobara in the episode she appears in, though, and had this idea I thought would be fun using all three of them and playing into their dynamic a bit.
I don’t think I have much to add to this one. This Subscriber has talked some about pairing Loid with every character Yor and Anya have worked with so far, although it’s not something I’m interested in actively pursuing. However, there are individual characters that are closer to them than others, and I think Yuji is someone who probably has a good relationship with Anya. I don’t think I’ve ever had her refer to him as her big brother in previous work, but Yuji has a way of becoming people’s brother and it’s just kinda a natural fit for him.
I didn’t really like the idea of Yuji palling around with Tanjiro or Zenitsu, I kinda see his and Inosuke’s Studio friendship as removed from either show and more about just them. That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten around to drawing these two actually fucking, and thought finally doing that would maybe soften the blow of not doing Yuji/Tanjiro or whatever else this Subscriber was hoping for with this question.
When reading this question, I had this realization that gambling in the Studio probably wouldn’t be that fun. There’s always a risk with how I portray the Studio that it’ll come across like the “A Nice Place to Visit” episode of Twilight Zone, but also I’ve gone on record that money is sort of just a prop for Studio residents. Maybe it’d still be fun to gamble or bet on things for some people, but I don’t think it’d hold Toji’s interest given my read on his character. So, of course, I wanted to show Toji passing the time in the normal Studio fashion, and figured it’d be fun to pair him with Megumi for it. I haven’t decided yet if Studio Megumi knows his relationship to Toji, given what he knows in the source material, but I figure it didn’t need to come up for this Ask to be answered in this fashion.
So “Closing Time” is a smallish comic project I’m trying out. The idea is to use a simpler approach to the paneling based on some other short comics I’ve seen around, which I’m hoping will make it possible to do comics that are longer/more substantial than One-Shots, but not take years like my full ongoing comics. To try this out I’m using a somewhat popular crossover crack ship I’ve seen between Tiana and Nanami, which I alluded to a while back in Nanami’s first Character Ask. Using that Ask as a set-up, I thought it’d be fun to see them together here in this format. I’m expecting this comic to run 6-8 pages, though I might end up trimming it shorter if I can. We’ll see.
