Subscriber Scenarios #23 – Movie Night

So I went a little overboard with this one, primarily because I had a few too many ideas for how I wanted to handle it. In the end it allowed for more conversation, though, and hopefully people won’t mind seeing this many characters on a big ol’ couch.
I picked this one in part because of Himeno’s recent tournament win. Clearly people want to see more of her, and I’m fond of her so I’m happy to oblige. Launch and Tien is a couple I’ve seen compared a bit to Himeno and Aki, partly due to Tien being a bit more stoic and Launch being unpredictable, mirroring Aki and Himeno’s dynamic a little bit. They’re also both ships that don’t get to become official in the source material. In Himeno’s victory pic I established a friendship between her and Hawkeye, so it made sense to me to bring them into movie night here and deepen that connection a bit. I also recently did a Film Appreciation Club Card for Eren, where I talked about Mikasa and Armin also being in that club, so it kinda felt like a fitting call to have them involved to. I tried to keep the action a bit varied and fun, hopefully there’s something for everyone here.

Sandy Cheeks NHML

The Near Hentai Monthly Lady for August 2026 is Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob SquarePants. I know this series is a cultural phenomenon, but I mostly missed it just due to the age I was when it came out. I had just gotten a bit too old for cartoons, but not old enough to appreciate them the way I do now, so any new shows I didn’t grow up with just seemed really off-putting to me at the time. Add the fact that the show’s initial advertising made it look way more like what we’d call brain rot today than it actually was, and I never really gave it a chance. I did see some of the early/iconic episodes later, and I’m no stranger to the franchise, but I never had the kind of relationship with it I imagine many of you did.
That being said, I do like Sandy. I’ve seen a few artists do stuff I really like with her, and I had fun tackling a different aesthetic than usual for this one. Hopefully my interpretation of her lands well, as I’d actually be pretty open to doing more with her down the line. I toyed with a few potential partners for her. Karen and Pearl are two characters from the show who I’ve also seen used well in fanart I’ve liked, but I went with what I consider the safe option instead. I went back and forth on how exactly to position SpongeBob here, but decided that with the way he moves and stretches in the show I could get away with some liberties I took in order to get Sandy positioned how I wanted.
With this post, NHML nominations for the month of September are now open. For those who don’t know, I’ll run down the rules real quick. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate any female character you want, provided I have not drawn her within the past calendar year (though I prefer characters I’ve never drawn, period). Previous NHML winners are not eligible for a second time. Nominees must also not be from the same franchise as this month’s winner, Spongebob Squarepants. If you violate any of those rules, I’ll let you know, and you can nominate someone else. I know it can be hard to keep track of these things. You may nominate by either commenting in the cBox, commenting on this post, or emailing me (Nearphotison2010@yahoo.com). I’ll compile a list of the nominees in the sidebar of this site, and then on September 1st I will use a randomizer to select the winning character who I will proceed to draw sometime that month. I look forward to seeing who you all nominate this time around!

Sayaka Kanamori Character Ask 5

So after doing several Asks of Kanamori with her daughters, it’s not too surprising people might want to see her work with Ragyō. I wasn’t too sure how I felt about that throughline, until I thought maybe Kanamori would already have Ragyō  on her radar due to her status prior to coming to the Studio. So I worked that angle in for what I hope is a fun Ask.

July ’26 One-Shot

So this Subscriber-submitted One-Shot is based around my ClashMe app concept, the hook-up app for heroes, villains and damsels to set up sexy encounters. With the exception of the second panel, I like that each of these pairings fits well into the interests of the characters (not to say the second panel is out of pocket, just that it feels more like a random pairing). Shego seems to have a thing for redheads, even when she’s going outside her usual rivalry dynamic. Magia Baiser and the Sailor Scouts is obvious in a way that shouldn’t need explaining. As for Zelda, the Briarwood vampires fit her aesthetic for captors pretty well, I think. Of course, Sylas Briarwood wasn’t in the Studio before this pic, so it’s not a pairing I would’ve made, but Subscribers don’t have to be limited by the same concerns as me when crafting scripts.

Special Training 0, Page 1

I mentioned before that the commission that created “Hot Yoga” was a ten-page commission that ended up split into two five-page comics. This is the second of those comics, inspired by a one-panel moment in the original Special Training. Now, it doesn’t really fit into the series canon for them to both have the Saiyan armor here, since Bulma brought her custom take on the armor for them between Vegeta and Trunks’ time in the chamber and Goku and Gohan’s. We can say that in this timeline she arrived with them a day earlier, ’cause the commissioner really wanted them to both have these blue tights for the opening moments.

Tanjiro Kamado Character Ask 9

I’ve already kinda addressed that Tanjiro’s aware of demons from other worlds are different from the ones in his own. Having seen a bit of Demon Slayer now, I don’t even really think Tanjiro would have much issue with his own demons in a place like the Studio. The demons from Iruma’s world do talk a lot about eating humans, but none of them really have since it’s been so long since humans and demons have interacted in that world. That aside, Iruma himself isn’t even a demon (barring some later lore I don’t know about, maybe). That aside, they’re both pretty amiable easy-going guys so I feel like they’d get along well, but I think anything regarding demons wouldn’t factor much into their interactions.

Butt Witch’s Busy Weekend, Page 15

Here’s the next page of Butt Witch’s Busy Weekend. Like with the Cheetara page, one of my Lord Tier Subscribers used their Lord Tier commission to instead nominate Catra as Butt Witch’s next guest. They had no other say in how the page was handled, however, so beyond who’s visiting it’s a regular page of the comic.
I’m not 100% sure when I’ll get to the next page of this one, since I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed with projects lately. I do have several other guests in mind I’d still like to do, though, so I plan to come back to this one eventually.
